      The Company
Drummond + Rosen Pty. Limited (trading as D + R Architects) was registered as a company in 1974 and was based at Epping NSW until 2006. The Company now operates at 34 Walter Street Leichhardt, NSW, in a character filled warehouse conversion space.
The Company has a long history of involvement with the design and development of new, extended and refurbished shopping centres of all sizes. Over the years we have established a thorough knowledge and understanding of Retail as an individual building type and have also developed close relationships with the major specialty store chains. We have come to know their perceived needs and aspirations, learned their operational methods and hence, their standards. We also believe that we have gained their respect as being highly professional in our business approach and extremely competent and innovative with our planning and design abilities.
Recent opportunities have seen the Company diversify into other fields such as Urban Design/Master Planning and new building types such as Mixed Developments, Warehousing, Large Scale Showrooms, Medium/High Density Residential Developments and adaptive Reuse Projects.
The founding partners, Richard Drummond and Raymond Rosen, are both registered architects and members of the Australian Institute of Architects. They are fully active in the operation of the Company, which presently has a core staff of sixteen with a capacity to grow to double that in the current premises.
In November 1999 the Company appointed a third Director – Robert Higginson. His appointment further reinforced the documentation management and Project Delivery skills of the Practice and compliments the recognised design skills of the founding Directors.
D + R Architects have completed projects in all Australian States and Territories and New Zealand. Currently the Company has projects in Sydney and environs, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory and a number of projects in regional New South Wales proving its ability to manage projects throughout Australia. The Company is also prepared and welcomes the challenge of undertaking architectural projects overseas when required.

      Quality Policy
To achieve the Company aim, our policy is to ensure the provision of superior quality service to each of our Clients. This, we believe involves every member of our staff practicing their skills with accuracy and dedication. In this regard procedures are in place to assist each staff member in their individual and collective tasks through every stage of every project and the procedures themselves are continually reviewed and improved.



 §     Architecture/Planning


Planning involves exhaustive analysis and investigation. Each project requires fresh evaluation and thorough research to solve its unique and individual problems. There are no standard solutions. High quality and good design must be harnessed and melded with a comprehensive and sympathetic understanding of both the client’s expectations, users/occupier’s needs and compliance with the relative authority requirements.


§     Urban Design


Master planning and urban design are both important aspects of designing town centres and large scale mixed-use projects for current development and future growth.


Urban design involves the sensitive arrangement of building forms with the surrounding environment and the creation of public spaces in harmony with the user and pedestrian. The synthesis of materials, colours, finishes, landscaping, public art, lighting and street furniture are important considerations in the design of urban spaces for which D + R Architects has specialised skills.


§     Interior Design


Architecture, Planning and Interior Design/graphics must be inexorably linked if commercial success is to follow. Only experience enables the evolution of creative solutions to complex planning problems and stimulating interior environments to co-exist.


The public today expect and deserves quality in the styling and imagery of buildings where they reside, work, visit or shop. There must be a strong connecting theme that individualises the space.


Graphic Design is another of our specialised skills. It includes Corporate Logos and precinct identification, directional signage and the “theatre” of the space. In all cases a co-ordinated approach is essential, as is some sense of order. It only comes with experience and talent.


As our commissions extend to include hotel, residential and commercial occupancies we continue to invest in establishing knowledge of innovative interior solutions and quality of life through design.

D + R Architects commends and supports the use of E.S.D. principles in its projects. In collaboration with enlightened clients and consultants we pursue innovative, responsible design solutions and material selections aimed to exceed statutory levels of compliance.
